I have 2 kids a 2 year old and a 4 year old, I just gave birth, and the big sisters give way too many hugs to the baby. It’s becoming dangerous but when I take them away they come to hit him in secret.

I don’t know what to do anymore.

As we said  while answering another mother’s question, the big ones must be strengthened in the love they receive from their mother with each newcomer joining the family…

This does not prevent children from always wanting to show affection to the baby, which is normal: A REAL doll, what a windfall!

You have to find a balance allowing you to take care of the baby while preserving him from affection that is too pronounced!

A general rule in children’s education, from the youngest years to teenage years, is to say yes as much as possible.

Of course, it’s in fact impossible to say YES to everything. However, a modulated YES, an explained YES, remains a YES

Let’s explain ourselves in the context of a child approaching his little brother from very close.

You will tell him: “since you’re a good boy, you can hug him” “sure I will show you how to”

Then take his little hand, and make him caress … the blanket, adding “this is how you give a nice hug”

Or:  you want to hold him sure, anticipate his desire and approach the baby of the big one, while explaining to him “hooray you’re holding him, now I’ll show you how to” take baby meaning with mommy holding him.

Anytime the big ones are about to do something don’t tell them off, anticipate by saying “hooray you want to do this, that’s nice, mommy will show you how to.

Of course, we must promote the environment.

A baby at reach of a 2 and 4 year olds is quite unmanageable. There is no other way in these cases to make war!

That is why high swings are recommended. Or any other solution allowing to put down the baby in height close to his mother (multirelax, morpho-one…)

A suitable technical environment, and a mother who anticipates the progress of the “big ones” in a positive way, will preserve a pleasant atmosphere, for the greater good of the whole family!
